  • Arkansas airport aims to reduce checkpoint delays
Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Ark., hopes to spend $72,000 for a consultant to study ways to shorten security lines during the busiest hours. "Our commission is going to be considering a proposal that would allow the airport to move forward to pursue a study to look at various ways which would offer a suggestion on how we can work with TSA to make that area operate more smoothly within the limits that we have," said airport spokesman Shane Carter. The airport will consider whether it needs more Transportation Security Administration agents and more body scanners. KUAR-FM (Little Rock, Ark.) • Commentary: Mergers will continue for airline industry
The U.S. airline industry has seen 12 mergers and acquisitions since 2001 and the aftermath of 9/11, says A.I. Houriani, who predicts the trend will continue. "Consolidation through mergers and strategic alliances will undoubtedly shift pricing power back to the airlines, allowing them to mandate more profitable airfares, and will also aid in decreasing excess capacity," Houriani writes.
