  • New Charlotte terminal area will ease checkpoint congestion
North Carolina’s Charlotte International Airport on Saturday will open a 60,000-square-foot terminal area that includes five additional security checkpoints. The new area will relieve congestion at the current checkpoints during peak travel times, especially for passengers arriving on international flights, according to airport officials. "It’s all about getting through faster," said aviation director Jerry Orr. "This will make life a lot easier for international arrivals." The Charlotte Observer (N.C.) Delta Air Lines recently tested self-service boarding turnstiles that allow passengers to scan their own boarding passes. Officials at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport say the test was positive and that they plan to offer 14 gates with the machines to carriers that are interested by summer’s end.
