  • Reports: Individuals on watch list pass security at London airport
Individuals on the terror watch list have passed through security checkpoints at London’s Heathrow Airport, according to media reports. At this point, it is unclear if the individuals are still in the U.K. or were intercepted later. Some observers speculate that staff brought in to handle the high volume of passengers have not been trained properly. Meanwhile, a recent inspection showed that temporary staff asked fewer probing questions. FoxNews.com (7/15), The Guardian (London) (7/14) sm_share.gifLinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • Column: Confiscated items end up at auctions
Each year, thousands of guns, knives and souvenirs are confiscated by the Transportation Security Administration at airport checkpoints, writes Scott McCartney in The Wall Street Journal. Many of the items are sold later at auctions or stores. "Store shelves have rounded cake knives, rolling pins and lots of small hand-held exercise weights — items TSA considers dangerous," he writes. McCartney also notes that the TSA will relax its ban on some snow globes next month; it will allow globes the size of tennis balls that can fit into a quart-sized bag.
