  • TSA expands Known Crewmember program to flight attendants
The Transportation Security Administration will soon expand its Known Crewmember program to flight attendants. The program will allow flight attendants to move more quickly through security checkpoints. “TSA is pleased to expand the Known Crewmember screening program to include flight attendants,” TSA Administrator John Pistole said. “Expanding these identity-based initiatives to individuals who are trusted travelers is a positive step in the evolution of the agency’s ongoing risk-based security approach.” He also noted that airlines that employ flight attendants already conduct background checks on them. • Congress passes legislation for pilots’ rights
Congress passed a bill Monday to increase pilots’ rights, and the bill now awaits President Barack Obama’s signature. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., sponsored the bill after he landed a private plane on a closed runway in 2010. "This bill remedies many of the most serious deficiencies in the relationship between general aviation and the FAA, and ensures that pilots are, like everyone else, treated in a fair and equitable manner by the justice system," Inhofe said.
