  • TSA, union may reach an agreement next week
After 120 days of negotiations, the Transportation Security Administration and the union representing screeners expect to reach a collective bargaining agreement next week. “I am cautiously optimistic,” American Federation of Government Employees General Counsel David Borer said. “Both parties have expressed that they believe we are really close to an agreement.” The TSA declined to discuss the talks. "At this time, we are focused on working with AFGE on all remaining issues,” spokesman David Castelveter said. “We will address questions about the content of the agreement when negotiations are complete." • Funding for screening equipment will decline, report says
A recent report found that government spending on airport screening technology may start to slow. The Frost & Sullivan report found that funding for U.S. airport screening technologies amounted to about $437.1 million in fiscal year 2011. It predicts that funding will decline until fiscal year 2015. Funding may pick up again in 2016 as aging equipment needs to be replaced.
