  • Philadelphia airport joins PreCheck program
As of this week, the Philadelphia airport is participating in the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program. PreCheck allows pre-screened travelers to pass through security checkpoints without removing their belts and shoes. "The program is part of TSA’s attempt to move away from the one-size-fits-all approach to screening," said TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis. "We can comfortably give some passengers some expedited opportunities, given we know a little more about them, and they are willing to give us a little more information about themselves." • Business travelers’ productivity increases on the road, poll finds
A survey of more than 1,000 business travelers sponsored by Fairfield Inn & Suites has found that the productivity of 67% of frequent business travelers increases when they are on the road. The study, conducted by research company TNS, found that most business travelers enjoy the travel, with 60% saying they enjoy the sense of freedom of traveling and 68% saying they like the experience of going to new places. "These findings tell us that it is extremely important to do anything possible to support road warriors’ productivity," said Shruti Buckley, vice president at Fairfield Inn & Suites. • From Porsche to Plane, Delta delivers for frequent fliers
Delta Air Lines has been randomly selecting top-level fliers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta for its high-end shuttle service. Frequent fliers are picked up in a Porsche and driven on the tarmac to their connecting plane. The service emulates what Lufthansa and Air France have already been doing for their elite-flier guests. • House passes measure to end additional screening on some flights
The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a measure that would end additional baggage checks on flights from 14 foreign airports. The Transportation Security Administration has said the 14 airports have security levels that meet or exceed U.S. standards. Previously, travelers had to have their bags rescreened when they entered the U.S. from one of the airports. The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., said, "This double security does not equal double safety," he said. "It equals missed flights, more hassles and wastes taxpayer dollars."
