  • Sports team executive charged for gun in bag at N.J. airport
    Joshua Richardson, an executive with the New Orleans Hornets, apparently traveled from the Big Easy to Newark, N.J., with a .38-caliber pistol in his bag. The gun was found as he passed through checkpoints on the way back to New Orleans. Richardson claimed he took his wife’s luggage by mistake, which is where the weapon was found.   • Avian radar has potential to solve plane-bird collisions
    A recent fatal plane crash in Nepal, likely caused by a bird strike shortly after takeoff, has brought discussions of avian radar back to the forefront. The Federal Aviation Administration has been collaborating with the Department of Defense to test avian radar detection since 2007 for both military and civilian applications, and the FAA has available a preliminary report of a multiyear assessment of bird radar for civilian use.
